Work Permits
Minors age 14 or 15 may work in Illinois, however a work permit must be issued to them.
The law protects children by limiting working hours, requiring employment certificates, and prohibiting work in hazardous occupations.
In order to obtain a work permit from ROE #28, the parent and child must bring all of the documents in person to the Regional Office of Education in Atkinson.
Required documentation:
- Letter of intent: a statement of intention to employ signed by the prospective employer, stating nature of work and approximate hours and number of days minor shall be employed each week.
- Certified Birth Certificate
- A statement of physical fitness on the physician's letterhead, signed by the physician
- Social Security Card.
- Permission statement from parent
