Students love graphic novels/comics for their ability to tell engaging stories using both written and visual elements. Graphic novels make excellent texts across all grade levels, and they can be used in more than just a language arts curriculum. They are engaging and help to support struggling readers. This workshop will provide information on how to select, read, and teach graphic novels as a literary form. Participants will choose their own text among those provided to take with them and use in their classrooms, and time will be provided to apply the day’s learning to creating lessons for their own curriculum. This session will be geared toward elementary and junior high teachers and students.
